The Most Unstable Bond

1. Measure 10g of iodine using an electronic scale and place it in a beaker.

2. Pour 75ml of ammonia solution into a beaker.

3. Add the 75ml of ammonia solution to the beaker containing the iodine and stir with a glass rod.

4. Set up a funnel over another beaker and filter the mixture.

5. Dry the substance collected on the filter paper.

6. Using a spoon, place the filtered substance onto filter paper.

7. Place the filter paper on the floor of the lab and leave the room.

8. Check the shoes to find the "culprit."

Note) The purple smoke produced during the explosion is iodine vapor, which is released as the iodine sublimes.
